Bringing the curriculum to life

Visitors - the children enjoy a huge range of visits, from a zoologist with his animal entourage, a Roman soldier in full armour, Shakespearean actors, poets and writers in Book Week and a host of other fascinating and entertaining visitors, including parents who offer to explain about their job, a country they know well, a passion they’ve developed.

Visits - to galleries, museums, gardens and places of worship, an annual visit to France for Year 6 and the eagerly awaited residential Year 5 trip to the Arethusa Venture Centre on the River Medway.

Performances - the quality of music, creativity and performance is truly inspirational at Dulwich Hamlet and we regularly showcase the children's talents through the Summer Concert, the Christmas Concert, the Year 6 production and regular assemblies by each class in turn.

An enrichment class making puppets

Enrichment - We are always looking for opportunities to broaden the curriculum. For example our Summer 'enrichment' programme allows the whole school to close their books on a Friday afternoon and pick up knitting needles, or tools to rebuild a car engine, to throw clay pots, sculpt, write plays, animate films, play cricket and participate in an amazing assortment of other activities to inspire creativity. Children leave their friends and peers to learn alongside other children of different ages who share their same interests in their chosen activity.

Parents are always welcome to join their children for their class assemblies.

Clubs

A programme of clubs varying to suit winter and summer seasons is organized and lunch times and after school. Lots of sport activities – football, cross country running, swimming, gymnastics, multisport, dance – and musical activities – choir, brass, string and woodwind ensembles, early music consort, recorder consorts – together with art activities and a French club, all give children opportunities to develop expertise.
